To Splurge or Not To Splurge?

Having a champagne taste on a beer budget makes purchasing decisions require me to really think if what I’m buying is worth the dent it’s going to put in my bank account. Should I really spend $300 on a dress I can’t wear more than a couple times? Bad idea. I'd rather splurge on something I can get use out of for years and that I won't get sick of.
It’s tempting to buy a really expensive item that you absolutely love, but sometimes we have to be rational and think if we would be getting our money’s worth. Sure I’ve purchased a handful of clothes that I dropped a stupid amount of money on for a single item which I’ve never been able to wear enough to have the price be worth it. So what is worth splurging on?
I have learned what things are worth the indulge by not having any regrets buying something that I never stop loving and wear or use all the time. I have never felt that reassurance after buying expensive clothes, unless it was something like a beautiful Burberry coat that I can wear for years and will never go out of style. Dresses, tops, or any other type of clothing that have limited wear are not on my “ok to splurge” list. It's okay to go for the pricier bottoms, jackets, sweaters and footwear for example, as long as the items are classic styles. Essential and basic pieces will get many years of use since they will always be in style and can be worn with the majority of your wardrobe. Pricier doesn't mean splurge though, so stay away from big designers when shopping for clothing.
However, accessories seem like the smartest splurge. My favorite overindulge item is definitely my diamond bordered champagne onyx David Yurman cocktail ring. A valuable piece of jewelry that you can wear everyday is something that every girl should have. It’s worth it to treat yourself to real diamonds and jewels because they will have value and beauty forever. Diamonds really are a girl’s best friend!
Something else I realized it’s okay to go on a bender for is a classic staple designer purse. Most girl’s don’t go anywhere without a purse and use one probably every single day. So if you happen to fall in love with a Chanel bag you can't get off your mind, or the Prada bag you've always dreamed of owning - it’s totally worth buying. However, make sure you don’t buy a purse that is too trendy or won’t go with the majority of your wardrobe. Go for simple styles that are not overly designed and pick neutral colors such as black, cream, or camel brown so you won't get sick of it and can wear it with anything.
Always think of how much use you'll get out of something when trying to assess whether or not you should drop your precious dollars on it. Jewelry and a purse (or two) are worth investing in because you will get use out of them everyday for years and they will always have value and are timeless.
