If there's one thing I will always remember talking about in my sociology course this semester, it is the idea that everyone is addicted to something. It can be chewing gum, going to the gym, soda, chocolate or... shopping.
I'm not going to lie, I find myself browsing through websites on an almost daily basis obsessing over clothes and then accidentally hear my phone vibrate and boom... an order confirmation email on my Iphone. (Oops). Every time I open my front door and see a package with my name on it I feel like it's like Christmas all over again.
But seriously, how do you know for sure if you have an uncontrollable problem? I rationalize my ever growing wardrobe by the fact that I absolutely love clothes and everything fashion. Fashion to me is like wearable art that allows you to express yourself and show off to the world all of the beauty and creativity an outfit can project. If a person really loves something whether it be cars, collectibles or shoes, they're going to be inspired to find a variety of items to add to whatever they are passionate about right?
The majority of my friends and family members don't understand why I feel the need to constantly buy new clothes since over half of the clothes in my over stuffed closet still have tags on them and have never been worn. If I find a beautiful unique piece of "art" that I might never have the chance to buy again since nothing stays in stores for more than a couple months, well of course I'm going to buy it. I'll wear it at some point...
Online shopping IS addicting. You can browse clothes for hours straight from your favorite stores or designers without having to leave your house and without having to search through disorganized store racks. There's nothing worse than having to run around trying to find that fab dress you were dying to wear this weekend, only to learn they don't have your size or the store doesn't carry that item. If you can find clothes online in a matter of seconds and know that you don't have to risk not finding something in a store, chances are (if you think like me) you're gonna look online first to order them.
The whole concept of online shopping is brilliant. The websites are easily constructed by item, designer, occasion, color or size. How much better can life get for an avid shopper such as myself!? It is definitely the best way to be able to look at all the items a store offers and a huge bonus is that the selection online is way bigger. Even if Nordstroms isn't carrying that gorgeous BCBG sweetheart top tube dress you've been searching for, by shopping online you can look for any item in a ton of different stores. You just can't lose!
Me? Addicted to online shopping? No way. I'm simply giving into my love of style and fashion. If you are truly passionate about something you should never deny yourself the right to engulf yourself in it and enjoy whatever it is you love. You only live once. If I want to spend my free time looking at pictures from the latest fashion show runways or browse stores to acquire the newest trendy outfits and accessories, I'm going to do it. At the end of the day if it puts a smile on my face and is something that makes me happy because I truly have a strong love for it, well, I consider myself to be lucky for finding a love that will last forever.
What's your passion?
